The front bushings were not worn, torn or cracked. So, it was not necessary to replace them.
However, on the 2000 9-5 I broke the left A-frame stud so I knew that I had to remove the A-frame and replace it. The A-frame replacement comes without a front bushing so I had to install a new one.
On the right side I removed the A-frame and placed it in a vice; I wasn’t about to be burned twice. The nut wasn't frozen and came off easily. I already had a second front bushing and the A-frame was out so I installed a new bushing on the right side.
All of the above happened around 180K-200K miles so I didn't feel like I was wasting money on the front bushings. They're a relatively inexpensive part anyhow (eEuroparts $8.49 each).
ADVICE: Don't break off the threaded portion of the A-frame stud. On the pre-2002 model year 9-5 they snap easily.
