Frank,
I can’t comment much on the 99 9-5 but my 2002 Aero is light-years ahead of my 99 9-3.
Things you may appreciate in the 2002 Aero are the suspension, the new Aero seats and the extra horsepower. The new automatic in the Aero is very smooth and you may want to try it. The dealer can change the silver dash out. I had it done to mine and it looks great.
Regarding your purchase option of 21K – as Lou pointed out there is no way your car is worth that much (yes the residuals are a problem for Saab). If you look at the numbers of buying your car at 21,000 at 6%-7% interest over three years with nothing down your payment is about $640 per month. You can get yourself into a new Aero for less than that. Some people will say that at the end of the lease you own nothing but if you want to drive a new car every three years that’s the price of admission. It is also nice to drive a car that is never out of warranty.
Good luck
Paul
