yesterday, between a 99 9-5 (stick) to a 02 Aero (auto).
Even after just a couple of days with the new car, I must say that the difference is much larger than I had hoped for.
I'd say the highlights so far (as compared to the 99 model):
- Noise level (likely due to the softer winter tires, Gislaved Softfrost)
much reduced
- Engine performance (even if I'm really nice to the engine during break-in, it still is very peppy, especially in sport mode at very moderate throttle levels)
- Xenon lights - I think these really are good, half-beam is really, really wide and bright, which is nice. Still haven't had the chance to teset high beam during highway conditions, so I haven't been able to make any comparisons there yet
- ESP - this seems to be a huge improvement compared to the old TCS, which almost always just ended up cutting engine throttle, the few times ESP have kicked in, it has been smooth and almost undetectable (apart from the warning light turning on!). Some people don't like this kind of stuff though (Hi Coolknight ;-)
- The new Aero seats for 2002 - real improvement in side support
- Being my first auto, I'd say it seems to be a nice box, the shifts are smooth and it works as one could expect (with the "S" button shifting it between Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde modes quickly)
Can't wait to get the summer wheels on the car in a couple of months (and the engine broken in!).
Summary:
I don't regret this choice one bit and would do it again - definitely go for a 02 Aero if economy allows for it!
