I have been experimenting lately and think that 35mpg is feasible if driven conservatively, ie. around 62mph (100KpH), on long highway trips. I can get 31mpg hand calculated at 70mph on 2000mi roadtrips with my 01 LPT 5-spd, even with some hills. Lately I have been experimenting with even slower speeds and using the instant mpg readout feature of the SID to see what the difference is at 70, 65, 60 and it gains about 2 mpg per 5 mph drop over the same 15 miles of highway. Of course my SID reads high so I would go for a full tank and hand calculate to be sure.

Regarding Civics, my g/f has a new one and I took it to LA and back, 75-80 mph the whole way, A/C on, not even paying attention to economy and it delivered a solid 36mpg, and the new ones are pretty comfortable and quiet for a Honda - way better than my 07 Accord which I sold after 6 months it was so noisy and uncomfortable. And the Civic does not lose as much around town either because it is a lighter and more efficient car than our SAABs.
