1. Yup, no need.
2. Yup, can be done by feel so long as the threads are all clean. I put the plug in the plug socket on an extension, then spin in by hand (pretty much as already described). A third to half a turn with the ratchet handle once it's made contact and you're done.
3. I wouldn't bother unless your're having problems loosening them (I never have). Then, I'd use a penetrant such as PB Blaster rather than plain oil, as most of it will evaporate while some oil will remain to attract dirt.
4. Your car will have no idea any of this has happened; it will just run better :-)
Good luck; it will probably go quite smoothly. I've done it several times myself and have never had any snags.

p.s. Gap to the narrow end of the spec, as the gap grows over time, and don't even think of using anything other than NGKs.
