try this: do a fly-swat start (accelerator all the way to the floor) 0 to 60mph - first with Sport on and then again with Sport off. It'll be same time, same acceleration. You get to do this at the Saab Aero School.
The instructors there let you use it either way, as performance does not change- only your perception. Sort of like the sketchy mechanic who stretched out the accelerator return spring so you would marvel at the improvement from the "tune up." Maybe moving the seat a little closer does this too.
I use Sport almost always- just got used yo the setting
