Suspension Time Posted by B Millar [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
With my 2001 SE V6 going into my local Saab specialist on Monday for a suspension checkup, I'm guessing that with 180k miles it's going to need some attention. The only thing ever done to the suspension were the rear shocks ~30k miles ago. Most of the bushings definitely need to be done. They are creaking like hell and the car handles like a marshmallow. I have a few questions:
1). What are the advantages to the polyurethane bushings over stock other than installation? Price, performance? I'm going to have my indy do the bushings if he finds they should be done. I don't have a hydraulic press and don't feel like hacksawing and stuff.
2). I might look for a sportier/lower(?) setup. Maybe Bilsteins or Konis. would I need to replace the springs? What if I only did the front struts and left the rears stock? Would stock rear "contaminate" the sportier front's feel?
3). Do the struts/shocks need to be removed to do bushings? I was thinking I could handle them myself but if so I may as well have him put in new struts and shocks right there.
Thanks in advance! I know nothing about suspension stuff, haha.
