From my experience....... Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Koni Sport Struts, NJWayne, Sun, 22 Jun 2008 17:53:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've used Koni Sport shocks and struts for years both on my former 2000
9-5 Aero (2 sets over 280K miles) and 9000's, etc.
1) I used the setting of 1/2 above the weakest setting. Put the shock end in a vice, fully compress, then gently turn counter-clockwise until you feel the stop. Then go 1/2 turn clockwise. More than 1/2 turn starts to get a little harsh. Max is about 2 1/2-3 turns.
I did full max (clockwise until you hit the stop) once by mistake. That was way to harsh; I had to redo the adjustment. I like the results at 1/2 turn; this is harsher than Aero but not excessive. You may choose to increase this to a full turn after 40K-50K miles.
2) 1" of tubing: If this is the piece that is closed at one end it is a dust cover that goes over the nuts at the top of the shock.
3) Use upper spring support: This will raise the rear of the car about 10mm and compensate for normal aging.
4) Use a spring compressor: Without it it may be a bear to hand compress the spring so you can get the top nut started.
Note that the car may feel a little too stiff for the first couple of weeks. This moderates slightly to an acceptable level. Unless you've done the front struts recently, you'll feel a huge improvement if you do the front struts and rear shocks together.
By the way Wayne, where are you in NJ?
