I agree almost 100%. Great work as usual, Herb! Just to add my two cents:
1. I set my Konis about halfway between soft and hard. I had originally set it at one turn from soft, but I couldn't notice any difference from my Aero shocks.
2. Did that piece come with the shocks? The only thing I could think of besides the aforementioned dust cover would be a sleeve for where the shock arm goes through the rubber bushing inside the assembly. (See dmitry platonoff's rear suspension site!)
3. The spring perch setting confused me at first, but it's really really simple. There's a little ring towards the bottom of the shock that can be pulled off and slipped up onto the ring-sized gap an inch or so above it. Gives you a little more clearance for the rear end.
4. Spring compressor helps out a lot; I just rented one from Autozone.
In addition, make sure that the locknuts at the top of the shock arm are VERY SECURE. I cannot stress how important that is! My locknut just fell off last week while I was driving, and I lost the bushing and almost lost a few more pieces! Had to drive home an hour with no shock absorber, and sure enough when I checked it out last night, the other side was only a few turns away from falling off itself! Shoulda used some locktite or something, I guess. Only other advise would be careful with giant bolts at the bottom; I've had bad luck with them and had to replace 'em. Use a jack to line it up when installing. btw, I'm a total pro at the 9-5 rear suspension now. I can switch out shocks and springs in no time at all, I've had so much practice!
Ok, now if I do this right, it should be a photo of the spring perch set to the upper level (forgive the blurriness; it was my camera phone at night)
