I hate to bring this up again but there is new info to add to the story. For the past 2 summers my 9-5 V6 has been running warm when it's hot out (80 degrees an up), and especially with the A/C on. I never really got symptoms until I shut the car off and then back on in a couple minutes to see the temp gauge spiked, never boiled over though. The other day it was acting completely normal. Gauge was dead center and I pounded it coming up the hill with my A/C on in 94 degree weather. Nothing abnormal. Then on Wednesday I was driving along with the gauge dead center and then 5 minutes later look down and it's totally dead, bottomed out. Today in CT it's in the 90's and humid so I was driving around with my A/C on. The temp gauge would not reach the middle. It was alive but it was definitely quite a bit below horizontal. I stopped the engine and restarted a few time doing various errands and it was the same story. So coming home I dropped it into 2nd gear and hovered around 3k rpm to get up the hill to my house. It finally centered itself but then when I got back and shut it off the fan did not run afterward and the temp gauge didn't rise at all when I put the key in ON but not START. Usually when I do that both fans come on full blast but they didn't do that today. SID says 94 degrees here.

Here's my dilemma. I have multiple people on here telling me to go replace the thermostat, which it's probably due for anyway at 180k miles (by the way please do not be offended that I'm not taking your advice right away, I trust you, I just want to do all my homework before I spend mucho dinero). On the other hand I have a Saab specialist in town who thinks it's the temp sensor freaking out. The temp sensor was replaced at 132k miles in March 2005. Now about the t-stat, don't you think it would be weird that for the past 2 years it's showing symptoms of being stuck shut a little, but all of a sudden it's showing symptoms of being stuck open, making the engine run cool? Sorry this is so long and I do very much appreciate any help. Thanks. I'll probably schedule and appt this coming week.
