Many tranny failures are from overheating made worse from old contaminated tranny fluid/ low fluid levels.

If you haven't changed the tranny fluid in the last 36K miles do a drain & refill method ( very similar to engine oil change). Unfortunately the tranny is more like a sponge vs a bucket so you will have to drain ( approx 4-5l) then fill up. Drive the car about 1/2 hour then drain & fill the same amount again. Finally do it a third time after another half an hour. This will get all the old oil out without the dangerous flush method used at repair shops ( faster but can damage seals from fluid pressure). Make sure your tranny cooler is clean - no road crud preventing cooling ( gently powerwash if needed).
Sorry I don't know the towing capacity but I do know my 99 9-5 4 speed
auto tranny has survived a lot of abuse ( 290 HP) plus plenty of use.
Be very smooth on and off the throttle.
Althout nobody has recommended it here I use B&M Synthetic Trick Shift.
UPC 0-19695-80286 .It meeds or exceeds Mercon / Dextrol III requirements.
Some say the synethic fluid is too slippery but I have never had tranny slippage even under full power ( no trailer).
