Gary: I do not disagree with you about the cost of the wiper blades, but think you might be confusing a point about the dealer's willingness to "take care of the problem".
First,it does not sound like they were not willing to replace your blade, only that they were not willing to eat the cost of doing so, since if they put a pair of blades on, and your car is out of the warranty period for that particular part,Saab would not reimburse them for it. Saab, like every other manufacturer, audits warranty claims by dealers, and since every time your car goes in for service, your odometer reading is made a part of the service record, there is not as much wiggle room as you might imagine for them to just throw one on and worry about it later.
Ialso got a shock when buying my first set of wiper blades for my 9-5, and although I have read all the posts about buying aftermarket refills and cutting them down, do not feel like having to do that.
The fact is,every car probably has some surprise like that in it's parts book. Something that we would assume is a nickel and dime item, that costs a lot more.
I put a new windshield on my wife's 900 last year for $263. When I tried to price one for my 9-5, the range was 860-1100. I cannot figure out why a 9-5 windshield should be so much, but thats what it is.
ALthough I have never had the dis-pleasure of owning one, I have heard from many owners that the car with the worst parts prices overall is Mazda.
Regarding the loaner,Saab supports the dealers efforts to put loaners on the street, and personally,in this day and age, a dealer that could not provide me with a loaner during warranty work or scheduled service would not get my business either.
Just wondering, where is your selling dealer that does not offer any loaners?
