Hi everyone,
First time on this board as an official 9-5 owner, after ten years on the 9000 board (and counting -- still have 2 of them in the family).
I've just purchased a 2000 V6 9-5 wagon with 137k on the clock. This was a one-owner car, and he told me the belt was last done at 60K. So, well overdue for the new belt. I figure on doing the belt, all pulleys, and the water pump while I'm in there. Maybe the serp belt too.
Now, I've rebuilt the 2.3t engine in the 9000s a couple of times, to include, obviously, timing the thing up and fussing with the balance shaft chain.
I'm planning to do the timing belt myself on this car, and will rent the necessary special tools to help in the process. To me, I think I've got the skills and experience to tackle the job without destroying the engine, but a previous Swedecar post mentions a high learning curve even for experienced techs.
Considering my background and that I'll have the tools on hand, does anyone disagree that I should be well capable of handling the job? Anyone know of an illustrated (or at least well-written) guide for the newcomer to this job?
Many thanks -- looking forward to my 9-5 experience!
