He's talking about the K&N open air intake sold by Genuine Saab. You completely remove the intake box and pipe behind the grille and replace it with this thing. It's totally exposed in the wheel well. I had it on my car (2001 9-5 V6) for about three weeks before I got sick of the Darth Vader inhaling sound ALL the time. I also removed it because I was afraid of inducting water and I couldn't go through the car wash anymore which was not so good. Anyway, to answer the original question, don't worry at all about driving fast in the rain. I drove a lot in the rain with mine and never had problems. You just can't go fording any deep puddles or rivers that might submerge the bottom part of the filter. Then you will have problems.
