when I bought new tires, I decided that they were far too expensive to let them wear out on the inside again, so I bought the shims and installed them myself... much easier than I imagined, too! Some people made it sound pretty difficult, but as long as you have good lighting, it's a piece of cake.
Oh, btw, the tire shop had one of those "free alignment check with the purchase of 4 tires," so that's how I knew what shims to order (Gen. Saab had a general reference thing on their site). I haven't checked the alignment since I installed them, but the wear pattern doesn't show anything, and the handling seems fine.
