Thanks for your reply! I contacted 2 saab dealerships thus far, apparently here in Quebec they do not share a common computer system and don't have access to records if stuff done at another dealership. One of the 2 dealerships I contacted was were the car was originally delivered, the only records they had was 1 oil change at 15k miles about 1.5 years after vehicle delivery, and no record of the car otherwise, which now has 38k miles. (It's hard to believe that nothing at all broke or that no recalls were made to this car, or that the oil was never changed again...)
I don't know if this Iris report you mention is available here, I would rather not try calling each and every saab dealer in the land!
Thanks again for your advice! Buying without service records is indeed troubling, and a FULL inspection of the car would have to be done, of course. I just don't know if potential sludge issues can be detected on a car with such low mileage, that would have just recently undergone an oil change for example, after a period of neglect...
