I messed up the speedo in one of my other (non-Saab) vehicles when I was replacing bulbs in the instrument panel.
I could tell it was off, so I drove down the interstate at different speeds and charted how long it took to go between two mile markers. I know it's not precise, but I took lots of samples.
What I discovered was that the speedo was 14% off. So, it was speed dependent. The speedo always shows 14% faster than my actual speed. Obviously, the faster you go, the larger the gap. When the speedo says 68 - I am really goning 60; when it says 34 - am rally going 30.
It seems to me like it should work similarly (perentage differencd) in your situation instead of at a constant 3MPH as suggest by Boston Baab since the wheel RPMs vary with speed.
Just a thought.......
