Speedos tend to read high--a good thing.

I find the speedos in both of our 9Ks and my wife's 9-5 to read 2-3 mph high, regardless of speed.
The towns around me have "radar trailers" they use to get people to be aware of their speed. They flash your speed as you approach. The local cops tell me they are accurate to within 1-2 mph, but I suspect they are not always accurately calibrated. So I go by several of them in a couple of towns and find the speedo reads 2-3 high. I have verified this by timing the distance between mile markers at a set speed over several miles with cruise control set. i.e., set cruise at 75, time the mile at 50 seconds and I'm going about 72, a 3 mph difference, same as I get at 30 around town.
Some people here on TSN talk about percentage errors that vary, but this doesn't make sense. Speedos are either gear driven (older cars) or driven electronically. Any error should be constant in miles per hour unless something is broken or defective. Reading 3 mph high at 30 is a 10 percent error but is only 1.5 percent at 60. If a speedo has an error that varies with speed something needs to be fixed.
