Exhaust Question Posted by B Millar [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Well I bought a used Saab OEM exhaust for my V6 on eBay from someone who turned out to be a very nice fellow Saabnet-er. Yesterday I cut through the rusted bolts and some brackets to get my old exhaust off and put the new one up to find it was a little bit bent. Actually very bent; it wouldn't fit through the heat shield channel of my car. Apparently the donor car took a good enough hit to really accordion the center pipe. As of right now we've agreed to a return policy, but I was wondering if I could make it a little easier on both of us. Basically it's just the pipe between the center and rear silencer that's bent. The pipe on my old exhaust seems to be okay, it's just the silencers that have rusted to bits. If I cut the silencers off the new(er) exhaust and cut the pipe out of my old exhaust does someone make some sort of joining piece/sleeve that I could use to clamp the new silencers to the old pipe? Or is this introducing too many weak-spots in the exhaust? We're talking about a seven year old 9-5 with 180k miles that's barely worth $3500 and who knows how much longer I'll have it. I can't justify spending $450 on a new stainless sport system. Although if I'm planning on another 9-5 after this one... Haha, thanks in advance.
