Yea Tech II is the best, but it is not really realistic.
So in the real world, here are some considerations:
- An OBD scanner will read the OBD codes. That means engine codes.
- It will not read the ABS codes, the ACC codes, the theft codes, etc.
- It will not "write", so you cannot make and updates to the car.
- Some ODB codes are reserved as "manufacturer specific".
That said an ODB scanner is quite useful if:
- it can interface with CAN protocol
- it can record and playback sensor data
- you realize that many codes are have different meanings for your saab.
My thoughts:
- if you just want to read codes, take the car to an Advance/Autozone and they will read it for free.
- if your scanner has record/playback capability you can solve some tricky intermittent problems.
- remember that a code is just a starting point. its not an answer.
