Left my 9-5 V6 for a Volvo S60R. Wife drives a Volvo XC70.

The obvious match for the S60 would seem to be the 9-5. But, having owned both, I can say that there is more different between these two cars than similar. They are both comfortable with great seats, but in my experience they are very different cars from a driving standpoint. For me, the 9-5 is a better mix of comfort and handling than the base S60, and more comfortable in general than the S60R, but not in the same league when it comes to performance (vs. the R, not the base S60).

Neither car is a high tech class leader, but both have enough gadgetry and comfort items to satisfy most. Both have a European sporty flair, but the Volvo I have now would runs circles around my past 9-5 (although the non R variant of the S60 is a closer performer). In general, if I had to pick one of the two for daily long distance cruising, it would be a Volvo just because of the seats. If I had to pick one primarily driving around town, I'd probably take the 9-5 with an automatic.

Volvo S60 can also be had with all wheel drive, which is either a big deal or not, depending on where you live.

Both cars have devoted and dedicated online communities to help you out no matter what your choice. Both are excellent, underappreciated models, but they are vastly different after living with each for an extended time.

Other possible equivalent might be the 9-3, but that is a MUCH smaller car to live with.
