I have had 3 large SAAB's - a 96 9000, an 01 9-5 LPT 5-spd (still have), and recently purchased an 04 9-5 Arc Auto. They have all been good road cars but the Arc is the best of all - fast, economical (30+ mpg hwy) and very comfortable. I regularly drive from the Sacramento to Portland in a day and arrive refreshed - set the cruise on 75mph and get a solid 30mpg/500+ miles per tank.
I much prefer the auto to the 5-spd - it is well-calibrated to the torquey turbo motor and allows manual operation and sport mode. The 9-5 is also a very durable car if maintained. A great combination of sportiness, comfort, amenities and value. Buy an 04 or later Arc or Aero and have fun! The only requirement is to check service rec's to make sure it got the recommended maintenance - some lease owners are lazy.
