Thanks for your response.
When I bought the car 1 1/2 year ago I had it gone over by the dealership mechanic, whom I trust. He went through the recalls and software revisions and told me the car was fully up to date. I don't have access to a tech2 so I can't double check.
(BTW the IDM on my former 1992 9k died slowly as well, but that was a LH2.4.2/ apc, not a T5)
As for the cat: basically that was why it came to my mind again: that car is scheduled for next week to receive its annual service and MOT, which includes an emission test. There is no sign whatsoever that the cat was damaged. I changed the oil after the IDMs were replaced, as the oil had a gassy smell to it. I suppose quite some of the raw gas ends up in the sump passing the pistons rings.
I have no way of knowing the condition of the cat, for a 1999 there is no CEL code for it anyway.
I explicitly asked the French dealership where the IDMs were changed about the condition of the cat and possible other collateral damage. They told me all was fine, but hey, that was probably the first time they ever had a 9-5 V6 in their shop.
Guess I will find out next week at the emissions test.
thanks again,
Jan Geert
