Drove an '04 Arc today - what a BLAST!! Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Fri, 7 Nov 2008 18:02:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I dropped off my '01 9-5 V6 with 182k miles to have the control arm bushings replaced at my local independent Saab specialist. I noticed they still had the '04 Arc out front for sale (since August) so I asked if I could "test drive" it for a couple hours. Woo! If I had any money it would be in my driveway. It was dark blue, which is way better than my silver IMHO, and had 60k. Yeah, there were some decontenting things I didn't really appreciate like the rear heated seats, etc, but holy crap it was so much livelier than my V6. The 4-cyl was definitely a little more coarse, but it was so much more willing to GO. My favorite part was the paddle shifters. I absolutely LOVED sticking it in 3rd (and even 4th) and being able to floor it up a hill with full boost not worrying about it downshifting. I can't imagine what the '04+ Aero would be like to drive. Must be a BEAST. The suspension was nice too. Yeah mine is probably worn, but the '04 was much quieter over bumps and cornered a little more securely.
Unfortunately I had to give it back, but my car's steering is a little tighter now with the new front control arm rear bushings. Not a gigantic improvement but steps in the right direction...
