I asked about the guides and any other engine parts that were visible during the chain replacement. They had no concerns other than the recommendation that I switch to the short serpentine belt to eliminate the center pulley. Apparently they hate replacing those, but I have already D-I-Y'ed the center pulley twice (at 105K and 230K miles).
I am certain they did not measure the new chain after running the engine for a while as they said they only drove the car from the service bay to the parking lot, no road test.
I know the WIS states 15mm is the maximum recommended extension. I "assumed" that 14mm is too close to the recommended maximum to gamble with postponing replacement for long, especially after 235,000 miles. It sounds as if my assumption may be false? I noticed I no longer hear a faint ticking sound (almost like very mild spark knock) when pushing beyond 3500 RPM after the replacement)
At what mileage points do you see chains that are in definite need of replacement?
