To sell or not to sell, that is the question.(long) Posted by paulssaab [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Need help making this decision. My 2001 9-5 SE has 180,000 miles of which I have put on about 50,000 miles.
In the year that I've owed it there has been only minor issues and has been a complete joy to drive.
It is due for inspection and will need tires, brakes, windshield(maybe) and I'm 10,000 miles away from needing to do the V6 belt drill for the tune of $1300.00 or so with the water pump.
I thought I'd get a Subaru so I drove a Legacy and found out that I have been completely spoiled by the ride of the 9-5.
That being said, my next car will be a 2004 Aero as long as it rides as well as my SE.
The question is, do I put about $3000.00 into this car or buy the Aero now.
The SE smokes alittle bit at start up and the dealer said the turbo needed to be rebuilt. That was about 35,000 miles ago and it's still going strong.
Car runs GREAT and in my job I get $0.5850 cents per mile so needless to say the car has already paid for itself.
My fear is, I put $2500.00 into the car and the next day the turbo or worse the engine goes. But if I keep the car and don't have a major issue, I do fantastic on the mileage reimbursement.
I remember reading that the V6 typically doesn't make it past 200,000 miles without needing to be rebuilt and I fear I am at the end of my engine life.
Haven't read about any 300,000 mile V6's but may have missed something in our extensive archives.
I know that "selling it" would not bring much so there really isn't much pay back on that end.
Sorry for the long dissertation but I wouldn't have a problem getting rid of it if the car wasn't so damn great to drive.
What would you do?
All help including professional psychiatric advice is welcome.
Thanks
Paul
