I also have a 2001 SE sedan with 183k miles on it and I have been itching to replace it with an '04 Aero. Unfortunately I am in college, don't work full time, and cannot convince my parents that it would probably be more financially responsible to get rid of my current car and get a newer one. The '04's are CHEAP, even with low mileage. I have not been as lucky as you with my V6. In the past 2.5 years and 24k miles (that I've owned it) it's needed over $5k worth of stuff done to it. The way I see it is last summer I blew pretty much all the money I made replacing parts on my car. I can maybe get $3500-4000 for my car (it's in AMAZING condition, not to brag, and I have ALL service records from day 1). If I bought a $13k new car and put what I make from mine toward that I would be down to $9500 that I would have to borrow from my parents. Then, assuming I make $4k a year it would be about 2.5 years to pay it off. Otherwise I'm going to be spending the same maintaining my current car. Ughh. They don't like the "principle" that I will then have a nicer car than either of them and I'm supposed to be in my "poor-years" of college. They don't understand how much car you actually get for the money. The car retailed at $42k four years ago. Now it's got 50k miles and I can get it for a quarter of that!! So enough of my rant, but I think you should go for it. The Aero is an awesome car. Have you driven a 9-5 4-cyl before? I've test-driven a few and the difference in the feel of the engine at idle and under load is VAST. The 4-cyl is a noisy (someone jittery) little bugger compared to the V6, but it's still an amazing car to drive.
