My parents are looking to buy a wagon and right now we're looking at Saab 9-5 wagons because of their incredible value.

We borrowed our friend's 2000 9-5 wagon to drive me to college earlier this year, and it was fantastic.

Today we test drove a 2006 9-5 SportCombi with 35K and the drive felt a little bit more brittle than I remember the 2000 to be. There were some odd little squeaks happening too. It also seems the quality of the 2006 leather is way different than it used to be. anyone else notice this?? Any reliability issues that should steer us away from the 06? Would an 05 be a better bet?

Two other factors: towing and fuel economy. Does anyone tow with their wagon? We have a 1,900 pop-up trailer and would like to tow. Think the turbo and the tranny are up to it? My parents really don't want to give up their trailer.

We'd like to be able to get best possible gas mileage (but obviously not the best when towing). So...aero vs. non aero. Is there really a difference in fuel economy? Also, I'm under the impression that there was a big bump in power from 05-06. Is this wrong? Would there be any real difference in fuel economy from 05 to 06? Aero vs. non?

We also drove a 2007 vw passat wagon 2.0T and that was very nicely buttoned down. Just wondering if any of you have thoughts about this stuff. Any help would be appreciated!!
