Absolutely! I'm with you 100% Kurt. Saab needs to look at Porsche in a big way (whether Saab stays in GM or not). 1 fantastic car could change it all, and you know, Saab has an icon, much like a Mini or a VW Bug. It's called an SPG! Just need design + performance that hits it out of the park! The current 9-3 + 9-5 are too similar, trying too hard to compete with BMW + Audi (but not). I'd love this lineup: 9-5 sedan, 9-5 wagon, SPG hatch (+vert). That's it! A touring luxury car. A touring family wagon. A practical rocket. Gobs of safety, performance, and environmental consciousness in all 3. There also has to be a realization that sales goals would be Porsche-like, not Honda-like.
We have been on the cusp of 9-5 wagon purchase for a year now... We are still driving a C900! NG 9-3 does little for me. Like you, I think the original 9-5/9-5 wagon was the last Saab I was really excited by... the cosmetic changes over the years have been unappealing, but the performance changes have mostly offset that. We just haven't made the leap yet... The newer and more bland they get the more I think we can take our C900 out to 2014 when Volvo (+ Saab?) will be releasing Recharge based vehicles... something that once again, is exciting!
