Louis, I don't want to ruin your day. It sounds like you bought a nice Aero. About the reverse issue. There was a run on bad transmissions between 2000 and 2001. I know from experience as I just replaced the 5sp in my 2001 Aero. It's not a synchronizer problem but some sort of spring deal in there that prevents the shift into reverse. At first you will find you need to try the shift a few times. Then it progresses to have to unload the clutch a little and finally you only get reverse with the engine off. The other gears will work fine and reverse will work as well once you get it engaged. I simply tired of the struggle and bought a factory new trans. After having a trans, clutch, pp and throw out bearing put in the Aero has never been better. I had this done at 125,000 never abused miles. Don't fret. Even if you have to go the trans route at some point, provided everything else is up to snuff, you'll have a great long term excellent driving machine. Best of luck and enjoy the new ride. Dan
