... the passenger seat.
I have a '99 5-speed manual. Once when my daughter borrowed it she reported it was hard to shift into reverse. I didn't have the same problem and watched her a couple times. Turns out that the move I unconsciously make is to pull the lever slightly away from me and back instead of straight back. Yours might be different, but worth a try.
With scheduled maintenance, you'll get amazing service from that car. We're having a nasty winter here in the East -- single digits at night, teens and 20s during the day -- and I've been driving my awd Honda for the past three weeks. My '99 Saab with 130K has just been sitting outside in the driveway for that time. With a break in the weather, I thought it was high time to take her for a spin. Pushed in the clutch, turned the key and she immediately fired up and settled in at normal idle. No cranking, hesitation, cough or sputter. The '05 Honda spins a couple times before catching, and it is being driven daily. Love my Saab.
