Love Akebono, But Have Question...

As much as I love my switch to the Akebono pads and Zimmermann rotors on my front wheels, I did notice that even these brand of pads have backplates that are punched out of steel plate. No further finishing seems to leave the portion of the plate that engages the caliper slot as sort of rough or non-uniform. The result is some scraping and gouging of the caliper slot. Just wondering out loud why higher quality pads don't add a little bit of machining to smooth out the backing plate edge surface mating with the caliper slot. Even my 1987 cheapo Nissan pickup truck has hardened stainless steel caliper slot clips that prevent this kind of wear. Don't get me wrong - the Akebono stopping power is great and the harder braking front wheels actually stay cleaner longer than my conventianal pad rear wheels.
