It is very rare that it is the timing cover leaking but it is the head gasket.
Many dealers prefer to sell the timing cover since it is more money in it.
I would not reseal the timing cover alone but would replace the head gasket together with dropping the oil pan and clean that as well.
It is no way that you can professionally squeeze the timing cover in between the head and oil pan and make all surfaces seal up again.
Also doing this job in the car is possible but not really feasable since you need to loosen everything anyway and move the engine over to the left side.
It is quicker to drop the whole subframe with engine and transmission straight down and do the job out in the open.
Maybe you can try one of these magic pills that promise to seal everything when put in the engine oil?
