I've got a '98 V70xc and a 9-5 V6SE and I've got to say that while I love the Cross Country for it's all wheel drive saftey, I do admit that it's 5000 mile service intervals and repair bills just get under my skin. A few service intervals back, the dealer told me the service light was on because the car needed a new pop-off rollover valve, and charcoal canister filter. This system, I was told, cuts off fuel in the event of a rollover. Cost: nearly $700.00! Fortunately, this part was, and has been backordered for over six months. Unfortunately, it trips the service light fairly regularly - necessitating an annoying trip back to the dealer. Now, the car periodically makes a jet-like whine that the tech tells me comes from a air pressure valve (or something) on the catalytic converter. Not broken, he says, just making alot of noise. Cost to replace: Approx. $500.00..... Less than 73,000 miles on car, all regular service done....but damn, if it's going to go on like this...the car is going to get shipped out for a new Saab.
