Tread and letter variations, carcass identical Posted by CrNiFe [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: You ususally get what you pay for, Noel, Fri, 15 May 2009 14:34:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
In the old days, for example with Canadian Tire, the carcass was made by General Tire in Barrie (long closed unfortunately) and the only difference was the tread style and the letters identifying the brand on the side.
It wouldn't make sense for the Kumho plant to not do it this way. The way, to be profitable was to have the same ingredients, technically, and just change the final look for the consumer. General used to charge more for its Premium kevlar belted tire, but they sold millions through Canadian Tire.
Here's the rub - you are likely paying Kumho ten bucks more per tire than the private branded, and its exactly the same construction. Anyone feel like cutting one in half at the end of its life to compare?
