My experience with Monroe shocks has not been good. Many years ago they were considered a "Premium" shock for many American cars because they were noticeably stiffer than the factory shocks. I installed them on the front of our '95 Astro van, and they lasted only half as long as the factory shocks! Handling was horrible, even when the Monroe's were new.
The Astro vans were very front heavy, so I replaced the Monroe's with GM factory replacement shocks. HUGE improvement.
BTW - the front struts on my 2000 lpt are still original, with 248,000 miles! Yes, I check them frequently for signs of wear but they are still good. The rear shocks have been replaced twice.
