If you remove the cams you really do not need any special tools, you just have to be careful with all the alignments as it's an interference engine, so you do not rotate the crank when the chain is out and you must put the cams back the way they were removed.
the biggest issue I had was finding a suitable chain break tool, after searching in vain i ended up using a chain break I used for my bike - but it was not an exact fit.
I hear some noise from the engine, it's either the balance chain or the timing chain going across the guides but the engine works well.
the cahin was cheap at a site sponsor, $ 48 I think.
