Without knowing you are comparing year-to-year, just looking at other 9-5s in parking lots is sure to confuse you.
The "SAAB" roundels took over for the "SAAB-SCANIA" roundels in 2001 or 2002. Ideally, a car should have the same ones front & rear.
For 1998-2001, it was "SAAB" on the right side of the trunk, and 9-5 on the left.
In 2002, Saab started placing the engine variant on the trunk/tailgate on the right side, with 9-5 on the left. The choices here were/are (in the US market): 2.3t, 2.3T, 3.0t (yes, the size of your "T" matters...), or Aero. Badges for the Aero were also placed on the front fenders under the side markers some years.
