The last time I was in for an oil change, the service writer and I were talking about OnStar and he mentioned that there was a service bulletin on the de-activation of all analog OnStar systems: I guess that as-is, the OnStar system will mindlessly dial out in the event of an airbag activation or such - even though no one is listening for it to "phone home" anymore.
I had them do this (n/c, as was a factory service bulletin) and after that, of course, the OnStar LED no longer lights up. I think that someone on this board was attempting to hack into the GPS in the OnStar box, but given the low cost of outboard GPS units, hardly seems worth the effort...
