Yeah I’m disappointed with the turbo... The TD04 is supposed to be real reliable.
Its burning oil, I think a seal is bad or something.
Its not the original turbo, I ordered it from a salvage yard. Its off a 2006 car that supposedly had 45,000 miles on it. Was only $250 with all the hard lines and larger intake pipe. Everything looked almost new too. I got it because I wanted the larger intake pipe, I put it on the car when I rebuild the engine. Its been on the car for about 1000 miles.
My original TD04 turbo has 90,000 miles on it and was running fine when I removed it.
The larger manifold size, yeah you get a bit more horse power at the top end, and lower exhaust gas temperature. I got a modified engine ECU to take advantage of it. I think its only going to be noticeable on the interstate.
The larger housing is hard to find, they were only on 9000 Aero’s with manual transmission. I’ve been looking for one for about 6 months. Here is a picture, the 9-5 TD04 is 5cm^2, the other 6cm^2.
