My wife had complained to me that the Christmas tree would light up when she was stopped in traffic. It happened twice, and finally I switched cars with her. when I took it in for a check of codes, there were none stored.
A few days later, it happened to me, after a high speed run, came to a stop, and about five seconds later, everything lit up. This time, I went straight to my local dealer, and left the vehicle running until someone came out with the Tech 2. The manager connected it up, and we started to figure out the issues.
The Techn 2 only showed the code when we started to move forward slightly, as the left front wheel sensor signal missing. Moving forward, the signal came back, but the dashboard display stayed on.
Looks like the ABS module lost contact for a moment with the sensor when it was stopped, creating a question of the wheel position. By default, it shuts off the TCS and ABS so that you can continue to drive along.
The wheel sensor is incorporated into the bearing assembly, which was replaced under warranty. Before replacement they checked the connections at the harness - I have had a squirrel under the dash in this vehicle.
The dashboard display extinguishes when you turn the car off and then back on, because the system diagnostics pick up the sensor position again.
Anyway, it would be worthwhile to keep the vehicle running when the display comes on, if only to be able to prove that the code was from a sensor rather than the ABS module itself.
