it is my impression that for the rings to seat properly, a break-in period is required, and if you want maximum engine performance for the 3-4 years that you have the car, you're doing yourself a disservice with no break-in.
What nobody has posted yet, and what I hoped someone would post for someone (like myself) w/o an owner's manual, what does SAAB require?
I know that the salesman wanted me to push the car, so that I could see its full potential. I don't think that I ever could do that to a new engine, I would feel guilty. Do most dealers have loaner vehicles, something with some miles on them, that I could push some? Granted, they probably aren't broken in properly either, I'd never buy one w/o BIG discount.
It's not just salesmen and test drives either. On the VFR email list, someone related being at a dealer to drop off his bike for some work. A couple of the service techs pulled some brand new liter sportbike out of the garage, started it up, and proceeded to rev the snot out of it and tear around the parking lot. A brand new, cold engine. The new owner shows up, they hand him the keys. This guy is second guessing himself now for not telling new owner what he just observed.
