Took it to Atomic Auto on the east side of the Portland area, a Saab specialist. He hooked it up to his fancy electronic analyzer & it said the mass air flow was erratic. So he swapped out the mass air flow sensor for a new one & checked it again. No change. Hooked a smoke generator up to the intake system which filled it with smoke so he could see if there were any leaks. No leaks found. He sent me home in a Geo Prism & has the Saab overnight so one of his best mechanics can check it this evening.

FWIW, although this is only my second visit to Atomic Auto, I am really impressed with Travis' competence and his interest in helping his customers. He let me watch what they were doing and the mechanic said that if I was going on a major trip, Travis would load me down with spare parts so if I broke down in the middle of Nevada 500 miles from the nearest dealer, I wouldn't be stuck waiting for a week for parts.
