I replaced Throttle Body in my 03 Aero. Followed instructions on this site including resetting the limp home. However, I did not know that you
have to reset the limp home with a Tech II after you adjust the spring on the TB. Car ran good except no cruise and poor idle when cold especially in reverse also when cold. Since I do not have a Tech II, I went to a dealer today who said, "No problem, we'll take care of you right now, sign this for $100. We'll be done in about 45 mins to an hour." Then told me 5 mins later that it will be $150 because he didn't know he had to reset something in the SID also? He then came and got me 10 mins later than that to witness an awful burnt smell coming from the Throttle Body. Mechanic said he has never had this happen to him
while resetting the limp home. He wanted to know if I did the replacement and where did I get the part from. I told him Eeuroparts, it was Genuine Saab and that I did the work. He said it looked like I did everything correct but it might be a faulty TB. It smelled awful and I was
only imagining the worst! (I know they hate DIY's) He said to go back in waiting room. (He had disconnected
the electrical connections from the TB and was waiting for it to cool down
and he would finish the programming.) He would then let me know what they could/would do. About 15 mins later he came to tell me that it was all done and the car was "running like a champ." "No more smell." I asked if I should purchase a fire extinguisher for the ride home and he said, "Nah, I think you will be fine." "Let me know if any more problems." $150 later I was on my way home and the car ran great, no smells. I did stop and buy the fire extinguisher though - figured I have it in all my older cars, why not this one. Does anyone have an idea what really happened while he was programming? How did he get that so hot that it smelled so bad and then everything was fine? Anything damaged for the future that will show up later?
Thanks
