Hi,
I think your long-term happiness depends on a couple of things. First, do you have the time and interest to keep up with trends on the internet (like Saab.net) and determine what you can fix and what you need to farm out? I have two Saabs and have slightly more time than money, so this is the route that I go.
Second: You need to at least find an independent mechanic. Start searching around now, before you buy the car. IMO, the reliability discussion is irrelevant because any car will need some work at some point.
As far as the dealers are concerned: I think this is a problem. In fact, I would tend toward finding a good indy mechanic and forgo the car with a factory warranty in favor of a slightly older model in perfect condition. There are tons out there including several in the classifieds right now.
Good Luck, Mike
