Should I purchase? In Houston?

I'm considering the purchase of a 2006 or 2007 9-5 and I'm looking for some guidance. I'm coming from a 100k mile Volvo that I've been very happy with and wondering what I might be in for with a 9-5 in terms of reliability.
What issues are common to these cars and model years? What should I look out for? I'll do all the typical used car due diligence, but want to know what specific things I should expect (ie, i read about the DCi cassette (?) but not sure what it is).
Lastly, I live in Houston. This could be a major negative factor in my decision since there are only 2 dealers (they both seem to be limping toward extinction) and apparently few indie mechanics. If I buy a car under warranty, I'm concerned that I won't have a dealer to service it. Once out of warranty, I'm concerned that I won't be able to find a convenient indie shop. I like the 9-5 but wonder if I'll be "asking for it" if I buy one here. Does anyone from Houston have any advice?
