Thanks very much Anders and Dan for your input here. And please carry on with the thread Dan, it's similar to my car, except I get even less vacuum, (a tiny tiny blip on the gauge when throttle blip). I certainly get nothing at idle like the 0.4 or 0.7 kpa per Anders' experience. Nothing.
The car drives well. There is no evidence of sludging under the valve cover (I have not pulled sump). The turbo gauge appears to read normally. No smoke from exhaust and no burning under the hood. But fuel consumption is poor; it settles around 17mpg after reset. Intitally it's better after reset, but I think the T7 starts compensating after 5 minutes and fuel usage "seems" to get worse after 5 minutes of driving. I looked a the spark plugs and 2 and 3 were slightly white, suggesting lean, I think.
When I got the car, there was an air leak where the long PCV hose goes into the turbo intake pipe. The bushing thing was missing (I still need to find one), but I have sealed the leak meanwhile.
I am thinking the thing to do now is to replace all the PCV hoses and valves. Maybe also the EVAP hose and check valve that goes to the turbo intake pipe. What else? Replace car???
Thanks very much for your help.
Chris
(Where can i find info on the Chuck Andrews vacuum tester pls anyone? Sounds better than mine)
