The stuff is about the consistency of Vaseline, clear, but with a yellow tint. I would say that you could put some on your finger and rub it into the gasket. It is still messy and would probably stain your plastic, but you can easily control its application. There are three products like this I use all the time. One is Sil-glyde which is good for rubber gaskets like the door, one is a tube of white lithium grease, which works for metal to metal, and the last is Wagner Lockheed Silicone Disk Brake lubricant. The disk brake lubricant is a stiff clear silicone grease that is great for o-rings, hoses, and all those other applications that call for "non-acidic Vaseline."
