I'll take the accident aviodance capabilities of my Prelude against ANYTHING GM builds in this country. That's also part of SAAB's safety engineering program.
If you're talking Suburbans (and other such grotesque vehicles), are you ready to let one of them t-bone your SAAB? The only reason that they have any safety is due to their ridiculus mass. If my Prelude was the same size/mass, I'd rather be in it than a Suburban if we hit head-on.
This thread started after I visited IIHS's website, and questioned the 9-5's rating. Thanks to those that intelligently responded with the information I was interested in. You want to see GM's safety, go to that site and see what a Grand Am looks like after their test. I didn't look at full-size GM trucks (and Suburbans), but a F-150 looked terrible compared to an Accord. They didn't test Preludes, but I think that I would rather hit a tree with my Prelude than I would with a Suburban. Of course, anything smaller than a redwood, and the Suburban would just mow it down.
So, if you're insecure about your inferior driving abilities, instead of learning how to drive, get in the biggest vehicle on the road, and you'll feel safe, no matter who you plow into.
Disclaimer: there is a VERY small population that has an actual need for large SUV's and trucks, you know who you are.
