I went through this about this time last year. I had a 2001 9-5 SE V6 with 184k miles on it and stuff was going wrong with it seemingly every two weeks. I paid $5k for the car 2.5 years prior, and had already sunken ANOTHER $5k+ into repairs (turbo, timing belt, lots of other piddly stuff). I finally made the decision to ditch that car and buy a 2004 9-5 Aero with 31k miles on it. It's been a year and 12k miles and all I have had to replace was the DI cassette, and possibly an engine mount (I need to dig into that tomorrow). I have a car payment now but really no reliability issues or sudden big-dollar repairs (knocks on wood). I think I made a good decision.
By the way, don't TRADE or buy a NEW car. Sell your 9-5 privately (you'll get at least twice what any dealership would offer you - I did) and buy a USED Saab. They are dirt cheap and any model after 2004 is a VERY good bet in the reliability department. Good luck!
